6th Grade Math

All sixth graders solidify their skills using decimals, fractions, and percents. They also study the connections between the three. Algebra vocabulary is introduced throughout the year. Students also master the geometry concepts of perimeter and area, with introductions to volume. They are expected to use correct terminology.

7th Grade Math

The seventh grade math program focuses on expanding skills in decimals, fractions, and percents with more emphasis on developing simple equations.Algebra vocabulary is commonly used to communicate during class examples and text directions. Geometry continues with perimeter and area of compound figures and volume of pyramids and prisms.

Pre-Algebra

(regular 8th and

advanced 7th)

Algebra

(advanced 8th)

At the end of sixth grade, students are evaluated to determine whether they are prepared for the rigors of an advanced track. If so, they enter the eighth grade curriculum which consists of mostly pre-algebra concepts. Geometry concepts of volume, angle relationships, and scale modeling are mastered.

Those students who complete the eighth grade curriculum during seventh grade then procede into algebra during eighth grade. Students learn to solve equations containing one variable, solve systems of equations, and graph lines. Exponent rules are also introduced.

Students who complete this course with an 80% average, pass the IHS algebra final exam, and receive the recommendation of their teacher may choose to enter geometry their freshman year of high school.
